Final Idea for my project
Space
The environment for the game will differ between the different levels the first level is going to be an office which is going to be a tutorial to the game
It will show of basic Movement and objectives for the game after the level is complete the character is going to be placed into another level which is going to be the streets of the city that the game is set in I don't want to limit myself with a city name or location because this could destroy my idea. Then the game will move to the park which is going be a more challenging level where there will be more obstacles like people, bins, benches and other props to stop the player from completing the level. After that the game will move to a bridge which is going to be a reflection of the feeling of the main character as the level progresses the lights will change colour to show the feelings of the main character then as a final level and a short reflection on the journey the last level is going to be the main character house which is going to be the end of the game and he reaches his goal of getting his favorite game.
The first level will have direct communication between a key and a door which is going to let the character progress with the level the main mechanics of the game will be shown in this level as this is the tutorial level also the player will be introduced to jumping over props like sofas, chairs, plant pots and other obstacles. The main objective of the game is to reach the main characters home safely.
The second level will have much more people since it is the streets there will be glowing lamp posts crossing roads and cars with high buildings that will go out of the level boundaries the main objective of this level will be to reach the park which is going to be the next level in the game.
The third level will be the park which will have more obstacles in the way than the streets this will be the hardest level in the game with trees, bushes and other props to block the player from completing the level.
The Fourth level will be the bridge which is going to be the emotional part of the game with the feelings of the player actually coming out. The lights on the bridge will represent his feelings with different colours. This will be the part where the main character feels down and unhappy about his disability.
The fifth level will be the main character home where he reaches his computer and is able to play his game in peace. to forget his disability. This level is to represent that games really help forget about everything.
Goals
The main point of the game is to reach the main character home for him to play his favorite game to escape the real world and forget about everything.
Props will be placed everywhere to block the character from completing the level also there will be doors that need keys to open them that need to be collected in order to open the door each door needs a different key.
Actors
There will be keys that need to be collected in order to open doors in the level. there will not be any weapons in this game so there will not be any pickup except the keys.
Keys: Used to open doors
Doors:Blockage
Mechanics
There will be double jump introduced into the game with different movement systems. The over mechanics in the game will be opening doors.
Rules
The main rules of the game or to reach the main characters home safely
Doors need to be opened to progress through the level. there will not be any ways to die in the game but there might be reward for completing certain tasks like opening chests or other stuff this might be changes later on.
Reflection
Today I started to play around with the coding firstly making my character move then to have animation then moving and now I am making a animation state machine to make my characters animation jump. I had some trouble with the state machine and I am in the middle of fixing the problem unfortunately I have no time today to finish it so it will have to wait till next week but it will get fixed. I am hoping to finish the character next lessons and then make the doors open and close by using a key but that is for next lessons so I focused on the character today and next lesson I will do the doors and the end of the level tutorial.
I have used This video to help me understand the movement of the character: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af-jsQFlLFU&list=PLZlv_N0_O1gauJh60307mE_67jqK42twB&index=8
The animation state machine has finally been finished so now I can focus fully on the levels functionality and how to progress with the level. Next level is going to be the streets.
Shadows in Unreal before AF and SL
Shadows after Atmospheric Fog and sky light
The shadows look more realistic in the image on the right because of the atmospheric fog and sky light.
Untick the box that says (Do Collision Test) to make the camera follow the character through 2D walls
Final Game Demo
Final Reflection
The game Demo is finally finished with some disappointments like not having the whole game because I made the demo with 3 small levels which if the game was actually made into a real big game I would make the levels bigger and more complex with some tweaks to the movement and weather but I had no time to make this happen so the video shows the demo that I made In the time I was given. overall I am happy with the game because It has taught me new skills and tricks in unreal which will come in handy in the next project. Also it gave me a chance to create the movement from scratch which helped me to understand the engine further.
